MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
OF THE
ALBUQUERQUE AMATEUR RADIO CLUB

5 February 2005


  1. Preliminary Items
    1. The meeting was called to order by president Pendley, K5ATM, at 0800.
    2. Visitors were introduced.
    3. President Pendley led the Pledge of Allegiance.
    4. Self-introductions were made by all present.

  2. ARRL report: SM Bill Weatherford, KM5FT
    1. This is the last year for reimbursement for the ARRL emergency communication courses. Registration for the Level 1 course opens Monday, 7 February.
    2. There are new rules for Field Day. In particular, if more than one transmitter is declared, all must be on the air. See more details at the ARRL web site .

  3. Legislation - no report.

  4. Special Interest Groups
    1. Transmitter hunters. Jerry Boyd, WB8WFK, reported the USA 2005 ARDF Championship slated for Albuquerque in August has been upgraded to an IARU Region II Championship.

  5. Old Business
    1. None.

  6. New Business
    1. President Pendley will be arranging a February meeting of the AARC board members. It will be held at the Central Baptist Association, 2517 Menual Blvd., NE.

  7. The minutes of the January meeting were approved.

  8. The treasurer's report was accepted.

    Program:
    Bruce Draper, AA5B reported on the Field Day, 2004, efforts of the New Mexico Field Day Coalition. Their goals were:
    1. Easy setup and takedown of equipment. Less than 1 hour per station.
    2. Lots of operating time for each participant
    3. Be competitive:
      1. Rank within the top 10 nationally
      2. Set record for New Mexico
    How might one accomplish this?
    1. Use QRP with its X5 multiplier
    2. Add all extra points for publicity, etc.
    3. Use "real" QRP equipment to save power
    4. Run computer control on batteries
    5. Tuned dipole antennas as inverted V's running north and south
    How did they fare?
    1. Ranked 5th of 2300 stations reporting results
    2. Achieved over 16,000 contacts breaking the old NM record of 11,800.
    How can they improve on this?
    1. Add dedicated SSB station
    2. Add RTTY
    3. Add VHF/satellite
    4. Add a GOTA station.

  9. Meeting Adjourned at 0857.
