My First Experiment

 

In 1930, while in high school, I heard about a radio that would receive broadcasts without batteries. I thought, this is for me so I went to the library and looked through all the books on radio. Finally I found one with the description of a crystal set. I went to Woolworth's and bought a ready built crystal set for 75 cents. I then put up a 100' antenna using reclaimed wire from an old disposed transformer. When I hooked the antenna and ground wires to the set and carefully positioned the catwhisker, the radio began to play. I was thrilled beyond expression.
