Kauai County Civil Defense

Introduction

The Kauai Civil Defense Agency has the responsibility for administering and operating the various local, State and Federal civil defense programs for the County. This includes planning, preparing, and coordinating civil defense operations in meeting disaster situations and coordinating post-disaster recovery operations involving State and/or Federal assistance. Headquarters

The Kauai Civil Defense Agency is located at 3990 Kaana Street in Lihue.

Radio Communications

Statewide Yellow Net

State Civil Defense uses the call sign KTI 87 and transmits on 155.715 MHz from Birkheimer Tunnel in Diamond Head.

County Civil Defense Operations

All radio communications specific to Kauai County take place on the 800 MHz trunked radio system.  Information on this system can be found here.

Siren Warning Network and EAS

A warning network consisting of sirens and the Emergency Alert System (EAS) is tested on the first state working day of each month.  The EAS can be monitored on 161.640 MHz.

Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES)

Ham radio operators with RACES training use the following frequency on the amateur two-meter band to transmit messages to State Civil Defense at Diamond Head, Oahu:
