Introduction
The State of Hawaii Airports Division
contracted with Pacific Wireless (PacWire) in 2006 to design and
implement a Motorola P25 digital trunked radio system. This system
is to be used to coordinate airport activities and personnel.
Confirmed information as of this writing is that the airport police
at Hilo Airport is active.
System Layout
This Motorola P25 digital radio system
is comprised of repeater sites at the following airports: Hilo
International (ITO), Kahului Airport (OGG), Kalaeloa Airport (JRF),
Kona International Airport (KOA), and Lihue Airport (LIH).
Honolulu International Airport (HNL) is expected
to follow suit shortly with a 7-channel ASTRO mix mode system.
(3600 baud control channel). However, if the new Motorola Astro
7X switch is purchased, the system will be a true P25 system with
the 9600 baud control channel.

is required.
