A Little About AH6OB

AH6OB   is currently located in Springfield, Virginia, about 10 miles south west of Washington DC. The station is modest by some standards and consists of an ICOM 751A on HF, an ICOM 271A on 2 meters, an AZDEN PCS-5800H on 10M FM, an ICOM R-7000 covering 25MHz to 2 GHz and a Microwave Modules MMT 50/28S Six Meter transverter.

The name is Dave. I am a " Life Member " of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and the International Amateur Radio Club and have been active in amateur radio for almost 40 years. I am interested in all modes of communication, especially CW but focus much of my time to experimenting with new technology. My passion has always been technical design and construction. My first ham radio equipment was a Knight Kit "Ocean Hopper" super regenerative receiver built from a kit and a transmitter built from salvaged television components. I was in elementary school at that time and spent my spare time in a four foot by six foot "nook" my father set up for me in the family garage. Over the years, the equipment has changed dramatically but my love for radio and the memories of that first contact are still among the the most exciting times of my life. The ability to share thoughts and ideals with hams in other countries is a priviledge I treasure. Hams are afforded the opportunity to "know" people in every corner of the world and see them as they really are, void of the slants and bias reflected in the evening news. I have traveled extensively and held many different callsigns from varioius points on the globe. Among them are:

WA4CAD until 1989
KM4BB 1989 to 1996
AH6OB 1996 to Present

Foreign Callsigns held were:
CT2BS - Terceira Island, Azores 1975 to 1977
GM5CSY - Edzell, Scotland 1979 to 1981
GM0CFO - Edzell Scotland 1985 to 1988
VQ9DJ - Diego garcia, British Indian Ocean Territories 1988 to 1989
