I work full time at Honolulu International Airport with Hawaiian Airlines, the largest airline in the state of Hawaii.
When I first started at Hawaiian Airlines, DC-9s like the one pictured below were used for interisland air travel.

---------------------------------------

In 2000 & 2001 the DC-9s were retired and a brand new interisland fleet of Boeing 717s was introduced.

---------------------------------------

For transpacific routes, gleaming silver DC-10s have been the signature trademark of Hawaiian Airlines for years. Despite their advanced age and healthy appetite for air fuel, the DC-10s bring back many happy nonrevenue travel memories for me; I was saddened to hear of their eventual retirement and replacement with new Boeing 767s beginning in late 2001. The picture of the DC-10 below is how Hawaiian Airlines will always remain in my heart.

While on the topic of continued change, in 2010 the Boeing 767s began to be replaced by larger and more fuel-efficient Airbus A330s, making the second complete transformation of aircraft fleet since I have been working at the company.

---------------------------------------

For years Hawaiian Airlines has been the official airline of the Oakland Raiders, ferrying the team between Oakland and all of its road game destinations. The Raiders logo is visible on the side of this plane.

Honolulu's Reef Runway. Completed in 1977, it was the world's first major airport runway built entirely over water.

From the roof of our office building we have an amazing view of Honolulu,
the airport runways, and the mountains that line the city to the north.

My modest work room locker. And yes, I really did vote for Bu. Twice.

Down the street from our office is a buidling with a beautiful larger-than-life mural by Wyland,
even more spectacular because there's a different design on each side.

These planes look a lot bigger when you're standing underneath one!

A bit of nostalgia... some shots from the 1960s & 1970s. First, a pair of old interisland timetables way back before printed timetables were replaced with electronic versions online. And below those, a shot of Leinaala Teruya Drummond, a former Miss Hawaii and model for the distinctive island girl profile that adorns the tails of all Hawaiian Airlines aircraft. Known as the "pualani" (flower of the sky), this distinctive island motif has been a symbol of Hawaiian Airlines since 1974.
