Oahu

---------------------------------------------

Diamond Head

Oahu's signature natural skyline, Diamond Head, an extinct volcano crater.

---------------------------------------------

Hanauma Bay

Just east of Honolulu around the southeastern tip of the island is Hanauma Bay, one of the state's best known snorkeling spots and most picturesque scenic overlooks.

The coral at Hanauma Bay has suffered from years of human contact, but the fish are still plentiful.

Koko Head

Koko Head crater seen from a scuba diving site a couple of miles offshore.

Koko Head Trail

It's also possible to hike to the top of Koko Head, but it's not a trail for the faint of heart. The "trail" actually consists of an old WWII railroad track that goes in a straight line all the way up to the summit. The higher it gets, the stepper it gets, making for a very challenging hike. The views from above are worth the effort!

---------------------------------------------

Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail

Just a few miles away from Koko Head is the Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail, a much easier hike with its own impressive views of the Windward coastline.

---------------------------------------------

Mt Ka'ala

Climbing up Mt. Ka'ala in the Waianae range, the tallest peak on Oahu.

---------------------------------------------

Valley of the Temples

The Valley of the Temples offers some striking views of the mountains in the distance.

Byodo-In Temple, an exact copy of its Japanese counterpart, is one of the most peaceful spots on the island

---------------------------------------------

Aloha Stadium

Crowds fill Aloha Stadium for University of Hawaii football.
The stadium doubles as the site for a huge flea market on weekends.

Windward Beaches

While Waikiki Beach suffocates under the weight of thousands of tourists, just a short drive away are entire stretches of coastline where you can have a beach all to yourself.

Local girls at play.

AH6HY taking a break from the pileups!
