Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres is a Mexican island in the Caribbean Sea, about 8 miles off the coast of Cancun. The island is popular with day trippers from the Mexican Mainland, but there are enough diversions on this island to keep visitors busy for days. Busy Hidalgo street on the north end is a mile long walk of restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops. The island is most famous for its connections to aquatic life; it is home to a turtle hatchery and dolphin discovery center. In the summer months whale sharks congregate in huge numbers offshore, making it possible for even timid swimmers to experience these massive behemoths in person in the wild.
