The centerpiece of digital operations is the automatic digital communications network. This is the exact opposite of the net operations in that your equipment is on all the time, but you, the operator are not there.
It is much more like e-mail, but the links are via high frequency and very high frequency radios. Your station is tied into the entire network. You automatically receive all the messages addressed to you directly or indirectly for you to handle. You also receive the bulletins about everything that is going on
(in Air Force, Army, & Navy MC MARS).
Now this represents a significant change from the way most of us have been operating. However, its presence and its capability create a powerful tool for our primary mission of emergency communications. We need more of you to be part of that network. It is important to make the network integrated, interoperable, and available everywhere in CONUS.
