Beam Antennas

I must admit.. one of my early fascinations about ham radio was with antennas. I remember making a 6 meter loop and running my IC-706 in my Brookfield, Illinois home on a 60 foot wide lot. Can you say "Hello neighbor"? Try six meters on a homemade loop antenna on the porch at about gutter height. I worked some NJ some Texas and Florida as I recall. I also learned my first lesson about RFI. My solution was to move to a 5 acre lot in the next state. Sort of....  Here you'll see the beam antennas that I've used both at home and on trips.

Force 12 C4SXL

This is the second Force 12 antenna I have owned. My first (a C3SS) performed just fine and operated on the same mast (about 60 feet high) as this C4SXL. I have had only good experiences with Force 12 and the antennas seem to perform as expected. The 40M (2 linear loaded elements) is a very good performer for stateside contacts but perhaps an underperformer for DX and has a narrow bandwidth.
Wilson Tribander

This small trapped tribander was picked up at a local ham meeting. The intention was to get a second beam antenna available for either 10 or 15 meters operating position. I paid $100.00 dollars for this used antenna and it has served us well at multi op contests as well as on portable operations.

4 El 20M

This is a very large (45 foot Boom) 4 element 20M beam antenna. This is owned by the Kansas City DX Club and club contest stations are allowed to use it. We have had it up on a temporary tower at my place a couple of times. It is a real winner. This antenna allowed us to run 20M for prolonged time frames due to its gain.

10 EL 2 M

Although dwarfed by the C4SXL, the Cushcraft 10 El 2 meter beam was originally installed for potential 2M SSB operation. I've never really used it very much and don't need it for local FM work because I have the GP9 vertical. It will remain up there until I either need it or need the space for something else.

Cushcraft 10S

I'll get a picture for this some time. It is the small profile 10M antenna that I originally used on my rooftop at my home in Brookfield, Illinois. I also tuned it for 6M and 15M,20M. Its real small and an underperformer but it get you on the air and is not much more obtrusive than a TV antenna.
