The MFJ-1700B Rig-Antenna Coax Switch has been a workhorse in my shack.

The only problem I've had is getting good signal separation from the antennas. Although the unused positions are grounded there are unshielded wire leads between the switch contacts and the center coax pins thus causing some signal to be picked up by a rig that is actually not selected.

My goal was to improve this separation.

Solution:

I removed the unshielded wire from the common coax to the switch master position and replaced it with a piece of RG-59. I soldered the shield end to ground near the common coax connector.

Since there are two swtiches I did this operation for each one.

Now by using the coax positions nearest the controlling switch the unshielded rig run is minimized and the signal separation is noticeably improved.
