ARRL Field Day 1971

WAØYLE (now KNØV), WAØVIS, WAØVPJ, and WAØVPK (now AEØQ) operated
from a hill near River Falls, Wisc.. Great location, terrible generator!

• Two are better than one, maybe (Stan WAØVIS, Bruce WAØVPJ).


• Gary WAØYLE (now KNØV) operating SSB. Later in the day the
  generator lost it's regulator, the AC voltage shot up and smoke
  came out of his NCX-5 !!

• Stan WAØVIS on CW with my Ten Tec PM3A. We gave up on the
  NCX-5 since the generator was unstable. I had just bought the
  little PM3A to take to Calif where I was starting Navy ET 'A' School.


• Still on the air (Stan WAØVIS) even without a generator. The PM3A
  ran on two 6v lantern batteries that I mounted in a school lunchbox.

1971 was our worst Field Day ever - never trust a rental generator!!
