fisher.txt programs. Fisher Price programs ============================== Problem:Where are the imprisoned knights in FPCastle98?? Solution: They are placed randomly in six of the following places: - Jewel Room - Armory - Architect's Room (where you can enter the Build A Castle game) - King's Bedroom (where you can enter Castle Comics) - Kitchen/Dining Room Hall (the hall, not the individual rooms - The roof - The ogre's campsite (accessed from the roof) - The dungeons (left and right dungeons) To get to the dungeon, you will need the key, which the crocodile has swallowed. You have to play the Kitchen game and complete it to get the key. Here's a hint: When you enter a room where a knight is hidden, you will hear the narrator say, "Please help us find the knights" (or something similar), while the "Please wait, loading" screen is visible. If there is no knight, the "Please wait, loading" screen won't have any accompanying audio. ================================ "The iMac has the ability to record sounds within a bandwidth of 44.100 KHz; it will not record sounds at 11 or 22 KHz bandwidths." If I recall, this may be one of the Apps which chokes because it does not switch it's recording mode and can't handle hardware that doesn't switch for it. This is the same problem we had with the Performas and certain apps which made assumptions and didn't allow for those assumptions to be wrong. I've included Kristine on this mail because she is the one who gave me the original technical info and can probably explain better if further is needed. If this is, indeed, the cause, then there is no solution without re-engineering the app. =================================== QA is looking into the problem with FP Big Action Construction and FP Big Action Garage. These 2 programs where getting black screens when the program launched. After making return calls to the customers, according to QA, updating the video drivers for Cirrus Logic and Trident video cards solved the problem. ========================== FPGarage Problem: Locking up in the race game Solution: add Files=75 in the config.sys ======================== FPPirate after getting all the map pieces , click on the parrot icon to pen the Options menu, then in the Options menu click on Activities, then in the Activities menu ,click on the Pirate island, then navigate around the island until you find the X ,then click on the X and the treasure will be dug out and the pirates will start dancing ========================= Problem in FPDOLLHOUSE: Characters are in gray with a Black squares around them. Game requires 256 color and they are set at 256 colors. Stopped all tasks and it works? Then we identified ICM = (Internet Call Manager) as the culprit. It will be listed in the "CLOSE PROGRAM" box as ICM. Close it and the game will work. ICM is a Telephone line monitor and is used with call waiting to send callers a message when the phone line in on the internet - Like "Call back later - I'm online". Go to Http:\\www.ICM.com ======================= User is trying to run a program that requires an older version of Quicktime but receives the error, "Fatal exception OE has occured..." when the user launches the program. SOLUTION: 1. Edit the Qtw.ini file in the \Windows folder. 2. Under the [Video] header, add or change the line to read OPTIMIZE=BMP 3. Save the file and re-run the program Program that require 16 bit quicktime: Fisher Price Sing Alongs Fisher Price The Lie Fisher Price After the Beanstalk Fisher Price A Day at the Beach with the Fuzzooly family Fisher Price Baxter's Birthday Fisher Price Yolanda Yellsalot Fisher Price Louie Lumpfield ==================== FP Western Town Is there any particular reason why the procedure for fixing the script error in FPwestern has us reinstall Quicktime manually after uninstalling and reinstalling the main program? If it's a simple data error in the program then Quicktime wouldn't need to be reinstalled, would it? If it's an error in Quicktime, would it necessarily affect the data file in FPwestern? Just curious... I've done quite a few of these and have been wondering. - - - Some time back we had one of the techs investigate the issue with script error on FP Western. First he thougt it had to do with Quicktime. He finally came to a conclusion that it was not quicktime but the progam. He had the techs try with the customers uninstalling quicktime and only install the quicktime from FP Western and no other quicktime. The same error occurred. The tech had the technicians try the following solution with customers. The solution appeared to work, we where not getting return callbacks. The follow solution is: "This is a new fix I would like all of you to try when you get a subscript error on FPWestern. I would like to see if this will correct the problem. If this works it is a lot faster then Uninstall and reinstall both the program and Quicktime. We have come to the conclusion that the program is not Quicktime. If the user is getting this error then they had to have already logged in to the program. When you log in, the program creates two files. The first file is called “Player.txt” The second Files is called “player1.txt” (if there are more the one user logged in the second file will a different name with the number incremented. (i.e. “Player2.txt”, “Player3.txt”, “Player4.txt”)). Delete these files from the hard drive the following syntax should do the trick. Go to Start/Find/ Files or Folders Search for: Player*.txt These files should appear Player.txt Player1.txt (This should always be there.) Player2.txt (This will be here only if the is a 2nd user logged in) Player3.txt (This will be here only if the is a 3rd user logged in) Player4.txt (This will be here only if the is a 4th user logged in) Delete all of these!!!!!!!!!!! And try program. By the way all of the user names will be gone and they will have to start from scratch." Or another solution that appears to work is lower the draw method to Raw Bitmap in the Quicktime controls. Click on Start, Find, Files or Folders Search for: Player*.txt Look in: C: drive These files should appear Player.txt (or players.txt according to customers) Player1.txt (This should always be there.) Player2.txt (This will be here only if the is a 2nd user logged in) Player3.txt (This will be here only if the is a 3rd user logged in) Player4.txt (This will be here only if the is a 4th user logged in) They will be found in the c:\Program Files\Davidson\western directory. Delete all of thes files. Run the program again. They should be OK now. The names list will be empty, but so what. ============================== PROBLEM: START32 IPF CMGR32.DLL 015F;3D032C0F in a customer's Win 95 machine with FPPRESCHOOL. Possible Solution: reinstalling Quicktime32 solved this customer's problem. The CMGR32.DLL is an Apple file. ======================== Little People Playhouse cannot be opened because SoundLib cannot be found. He says he installed the program but can't give me any details of what he did. Has no access to another Mac to see if the CD is OK. Needs to update to the latest version of Quicktime. It may also be fixed by going to System 7.5.1 or later. Sent him to Apple website for it. ======================= FP Farm - sound slow and low pitched 1. Click Start and select Run. You can change the color of the flag, and the shape or style of the skull and crossbones. In addition to doing this you can also add images to the flag. These are available from three icons located on the screen. One being a chest, another being a picture of the captain and the third being the letters ABC. When doing this you can add a total of 21 images that is the limit, period, end of story. When you try to exceed this you get a message stating that there aren’t anymore flag parts. ========================== Quicktime32 error during install No Quicktime program group; Control Panel has NO Quicktime items listed. Checked in Add/Remove, no Quicktimes listed there either. Deleted qt*.* and *.qtc files. Deleted the temp files (c:\pbtools\wintemp, and c:\windows\temp). Restarted Win95. Ran scandisk. Tried reinstalling Quicktime32 again. Still says an earlier install had not completed; chose new install; still got same error: qt32 caused IPF in qt32.exe at 0137:0040ab64. Tried the QT32 install again; THIS time chose NOT to check for existing versions, and it proceeded onward... and this time it says it finished it. Played the sample.mov and IT WORKS. Tried the FPwestern; seems to be OK. Tried FPPS, went to Singalongs (the original problem area), and it's all working now. ========================== FP Reading - lockup at sign in At sign in screen; click on existing name, click on thumbs-up, and program locks up. Ran the uninstall. Made sure directory was gone. Restarted Win95. Cleaned CD. Reinstalled it; ran it. Works. =========================== Gets lines across screen. Click on play and gets line across the screen. Changed Optimize=driver to BMP. ================================ Pirate - not printing all the cards It's only printing the ones in the upper left hand corner, even if they choose Print All. If they choose any other one, it still prints just the one in the corner. I read her the following notes: --------------------------------------- Printing only the Captains card, or only the card on the upper left. It will not print the card that was selected. Solution: There are two options for printing the cards; print and print all. Print all will print all of the cards in your scrapbook. Print will print all of the cards that are on the pages that are open. When you print you will see four dialog boxes. Windows:'Make sure a printer is connected to your system.' Select OK. The print box to choose the printer & how many pages to print. 'Printing "PrintOMatic Lite Xtra Output" 'page 1 of 1' The last three come up for every card that will print. The 'Print' button will print from one to four pages, and go through all three of the dialog boxes for each card. Selecting a card and then selecting the 'print' button will not just print that card, but all of the cards on the two pages. -------------------------------------------- Customer wants to print out the third trading card in FP Pirate Ship. Solution: The cards will print individually from top left to bottom left, to top right to bottom right. If the customer wants to print the top right card, he/she will have to cancel the first two jobs, then print the third job, then cancel the last job. --------------------------------------------- Is there a multiple character card in the scrap book? Could not print selected characters. It only prints the character on the left. Solution: Suggest customer to turn off print manager in her control panel (win31). Also, she is usin g an HP 680 inkjet printer. When you are printing the pirate trading cards, if you select the option to print a card, you will print all of the cards on the page that that you are viewing. Each card will have it own printing screen. If you select the option to print all of the cards it will print all of the cards. Do not select the cancel buttons unless you don't want to print any or all of the cards. If you select a card and it enlarges, it is only for viewing, you are not selecting the card for printing. ------------------------------------------------------------------- She figured it out from these notes. It's working now. =============================== FP Garage Problem opening intropre.dxr. He also has seen problem opening forkpre.dxr. Deleted reg entry (HKLM/Soft/Fisher-Price/Garage) and program dir (c:\ProgFiles\FisherPrice\Garage). Cleaned CD. Reinstalled; ran it. Garage caused IPF in Garage.exe at 015f:004fd2d6. Restarted Win98. Checked system info; (He reads me System Decides, Gameport Joyjack, other interesting terms.) Some devices show conflicts; advised him he should have that checked out. Cleaned CD again; oh NOW he sees scratches on it. Tried it. Works now. ============================== FP Reading Runs completely OK on "no mouse skills" but doesn't on the other one. It lets them work in Free Play but not otherwise. Missing letters and other things not working right. Also getting: Play40 caused IPF in play40.exe at 015f:0041cc3e. She has not tried to update any drivers yet. Video set for 800x600x256. Deleted reg entry (Davidson/FPread) and program dir (FisherPrice\FPread). Cleaned CD. Closed all bg tasks. Reinstalled it; ran it. It seems to be working OK now. ========================== FP Petshop Double clicking on the dryer before the instructions are completed causes the Hair dryer to loop and it won;t shut off. Back out and come back in and wait for the instructions to finish then click on it. ====================== GETS "IVPF IN MODULE MSS32.DLL AT 0137:2000C393" Rebooted in safe mode. PC is a 1 1/2 years old. Customer said that REALPLAYER has been there for over a year. Reinstalled the game and it works. It was REALPLAYER 5.0 and G2 both uninstalled. I think that REALPLAYER 5.9 uninstall alone would have done it. Lets test in the future. ====================== Fisher Price programs dated 2001 or later. ========================================== Knowledge Adventure took back the FP programs from Learning Company (Mattel) after a 2-year hiatus where Mattel had been handling and developing them. Windows ME compatibility. Check back of CD case in lower left. There will be either a Quicktime logo or a Smacker logo. The ones with QT do not mention WinME or Macintosh. The ones with Smacker do mention WinME and Mac. Yet, both were developed and tested at the same time! Speculation is that these programs which use QT are using QT4 which was not "certified" for WinME. Yet, they usually work OK. They often require changing some QT settings, or just upgrade to QT5. We speculate that KA was too cheap to license QT5 to include on the CD. ===========================================
