10. Don't call a DX station in a Net if YOU haven't checked into the Net.
Check into the Net or QSY. This is their party, and you are crashing it.
5R8GQ's DX Pileup Tips
1. If you can't CLEARLY hear the DX station come back
to you DON'T CALL! This will help avoid busted QSO's.
2. Give your callsign only ONCE. Calling more than once per QRZ
only causes QRM. Some guys turn on their voice keyers and give their
callsigns 2 or 3 times, usually over someone else's QSO.
3. LISTEN before transmitting. Is he operating split? Is he calling
your area? Is he working off of a list? Think before calling.
4. Don't call out of turn. If he is calling sixes and you're a
five, DON'T CALL!
5. Don't "Tail End" (Try to be the last one calling, so the
DX station hears you last.) Yes, lot's of people do it, but
that doesn't make it right. Tail Ending only only causes
QRM
. The people who advocate Tail Ending have never been
at the other end of a pileup, actually been the DX station.
6. Don't tune up your amp on frequency! This is a "no brainer"
but some people do it anyway, they are morons!
7. Don't ask questions in a big pileup. If you LISTEN you
will hear QTH, QSL Info, etc. in a few minutes. You are
only slowing down the pileup by asking these things.
8. Just The Facts. Only give your callsign, the signal report, and
MAYBE your name if the DX op is asking for it. NOBODY CARES
about your rig, antenna, microphone, brother-in-law's dentures,
etc. If they want to know, they'll ask! Save it for rag chews.
12. RELAX and try to have fun. It's ONLY A HOBBY! If you don't
work the DX station, you aren't going to die. There will be another
station from the prefix another time.
9. Don't talk on the DX frequency. "Who is he?" "Where is he?"
"Bubba are you out there?". These are all the stupid things a few people
transmit on top of the DX station. It only causes QRM.
13. Keep your cool. If it descends into bedlam, QSY or turn off the radio.
Don't be tempted to start shouting and interupting just because everyone
else is. You are a better operator than that!
11. Don't be the "Frequency Policeman". Yelling "UP,UP,UP!" at a guy calling
on the wrong frequency only makes you a bigger lid then he is.
