WA5NJG John Hoskins - Arlington, Tex.
Operating since 1965 a Heathkit Mohawk receiver and Apache transmitter with the matching SB-10 phasing single-sideband adapter, 180 watts input SSB and CW (150 watts input plate-modulated AM). The WA5NJG transmitter site is where, thus far, my HF operating centers, until I actually accumulate the requisite functioning equipment at the QTH.

The Heathkit Apache transmitter is now in very good operating condition. For a while, especially when it was not in regular use, it was very drifty and was plagued with many troubles; but those appear to be all past now, and it has become a real pleasure to operate. There's something tangible and nostalgic about tuning up the final amplifier of an old transmitter such as this, which has switches and knobs and one meter (and transformers, lots and lots of transformers), that a modern ricebox cannot deliver. There's also arguably a difference, an imperfection, a unique character, in the transmitted signal that readily distinguishes it from the modern all-in-one-box radio.

New pictures finally!

WB5CTQ Gene Coldwell - Arlington, Tex.
Gene does a fair amount of experimenting with antennas, particularly portable antennas which can be quickly deployed for operation almost anywhere. He's also experimented at times with QRP, PSK, and unfortunately QBE.

WB5MND Carl Twilley - Arlington, Tex.

K9STH Glen Zook - Richardson, Tex.
Glen has an extensive vintage radio collection which I have visited. It is quite impressive. He has pictures on his website.

WV5K Jim Chance - Cleburne, Tex.
A few of us in the area helped Jim with some tower work a while back. He's a great guy, and he has a fair residential antenna farm on his tower, most notably a 4-element 20M beam.

K5REN Rennie Kontak - Fort Worth, Tex.
Rennie lives about a half mile south of me and has a pretty decent tower (maybe 50 feet).

The local Ten-Ten fellows are all first-rate operators and just great guys overall. I try to make at least one of the weekly nets and the Friday morning Breakfast And Coffee.
