I ordered an Elecraft K2 on Tuesday, September 19, 2000. I received it on Friday September 22. I started building it as soon as I got it. I finished the control and front panel boards the same night. The next day I finished part 1 including testing. Only one minor problem, the segments on the LED bargraph got dimmer depending on how many segments were on. Figuring it was fairly minor, I continued, starting on part 2. I finished part 2 on Monday. Everything added in that stage worked just fine. I talked to Gary at Elecraft on Monday, and again on Tuesday about the LED bargraph problem. I found the problem to be a bad solder connection at the base of Q2. After taking the solder out of that joint and resoldering it, the problem with the bargraph was gone. I finished part three on Wednesday September 27, and my first contact was with Mac AF4PS, in Odessa, FL. He was also using a K2, and I got 1000 miles per watt with that QSO! I have taken pictures of my K2, and as soon as I can upload them from the camera, I will post them on this page. I recently added the KSB2 SSB option to my K2. Building the KSB2 was as fun as building the K2! No problems were encountered during assembly, and I've made quite a few contacts, mostly DX with it. I'm having a lot of fun with the K2!

I also have a K1. It is my backpacking and hiking rig. I added a backlight to the LCD on my own. I'll post a picture and more information about the modification as soon as possible. The K1 is great!
