The IC-7800 at the 2004 Milan Ham Fair |
---|
I attended the Ham Fair in Milan in the last week of January 2004, and took a few photos. I also had an opportunity to look through the massive User Manual. (View PDF's of pages 1-2 and 4-21*)
Here are a few IC-7800 pointers I picked up at the show:
The two receivers are completely independent, with separate front-panel controls.
They can operate, without mutual interaction or performance degradation, on completely different bands and modes.
The spectrum analyser has a dynamic range of 80 dB. The operator can monitor the spectral content of the band between the selected sweep edges, or sweep a selected bandwidth centred on the receiving frequency in the scope screen (as in the IC-756Pro II).
The filter selection control is not near the left border of the display; it now consists of two controls between the Twin PBT controls.
The digital meters look like the analogue meter of the IC- 756 Pro II.
I think that the price will drop so as to attract a large market (maybe 8.000 Euro), otherwise the IC-7800 will be too expensive; just think of the anguish if an electrical discharge damages it!
* Note that the IC-7800 is the first amateur transceiver to incorporate PSK31 decoding and a waterfall
display.
