FIELD DAY 2001

Please revisit: new pictures will be arriving within next few weeks!

ABØMV  1A Colorado
1758 QSO's

Operators: ABØMV Merri, AEØQ Glenn , KL7ED Ed, N5ANF Gary, WNØB Leo, WW1M Bruce

Location: Arapahoe National Forest near Empire,
Clear Creek County, Colorado
Elevation: 10,600 feet

Antenna: V beam, 350 foot per leg!
That's more than 10 wave-lengths on 10 meters!

Arriving at the Field Day site was quite an accomplishment.   AEØQ Glenn and Merri ABØMV first had a winshield wiper disintegrate in the middle of a rainstorm on I-70.  Finally, after several exits of trying to find a store to buy a new blade, we found a car parts store in Idaho Springs.  Then, the Blazer camper vapor-locked on I-40 going uphill just outside of Empire.  By the time we reached the actual trail up the mountain, I was screaming.  And if I thought the real trail was frightening----Gary N5ANF took a wrong turn and went up the wrong trail which was MUCH worse.  Bruce WW1M did the same---but late at night!

and antenna up to site
along a very scarey trail

This is the smooth part of the trail.
Not seen are the rocks and steep drop offs at the edge of very narrow parts.

A storm that came up over the mountains.  We had to stop operating for 2 hours Saturday due to lightning.

JUST BECAUSE IT'S FIELD DAY, IT DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE TO DO WITHOUT THE LUXURY OF GOOD FOOD---thanks to KL7ED.
Saturday night Glenn cooked dinner and Sunday morning, Leo WNØB made breakfast burritos----yummy!
Ed KL7ED and Leo WNØB provided round the clock sandwiches.
