Notes:
(1) No new Novice or Advanced class licenses will be issued after 4/15/00, but current holders of these licenses may renew indefinitely, and retain all their operating privileges.
(2) If you qualified for your Technician license before 3/21/87, you can upgrade to General by providing proof to any VE team, paying the application fee, and completing FCC form 605. No tests required! See the FAQ page for more information on "grandfathered" licenses.
(3) Technicians and Tech Plus licenses have been lumped together into a single class. From now on renewal licenses for BOTH classes will read "Technician". This means it will no longer be obvious what privileges you're entitled to just from looking at your ticket. Sooooo, in order to use the Tech Plus HF band segments you must be able to document having passed a 5 words per minute Morse Code test.
(4) Whaatt?! You gotta be kiddin' me!! Get busy on those tests right now!

- You just concentrate on the test, we'll sweat the details for you.
- If you have any questions, don't hesitate to raise your hand and ask us. Unless, of course, you want the answer to a test question. We're nice guys, but not that nice.
- We have plenty of pencils and pens, and even calculators if you forget one.
- Please don't write in the test booklets. We'll provide you with scratch paper if you need it.
- Relax. Take your time. We'll be here as long as you need us to be here. Read the question through slowly a few times.
- Now study the four answer choices. Sometimes one of them is a little "off the wall" - obviously wrong. (A little VE humor, maybe?) That helps narrow it down a bit. They're called "distractors", but we call them "gimmees".
- If you get stuck on a question, skip it and come back later. Oh, make sure you skip a line on the answer sheet, too.
- When you get to the end, go back and try the ones you skipped again. Sometimes you learn the answer to a question by reading the body of the question following it! I'm serious.
- If you STILL aren't sure, then as a LAST RESORT, and ONLY as a last resort, go ahead and, well ... guess. A question left unanswered is marked wrong, so you might as well take a stab at it. But if you tell ANYONE we said this we'll deny it.
