Having a few friends & acquaintances working for the UN as civilians, news such as that about what had happened causes great concern. It was with great sadness that I discovered today that not only one of the victims was an amateur, but also someone who I had spoken with over the air in the past. Everyone & I do mean everyone has lost something with Pero's passing, though noone no more than his family & closest friends, to whom I wish to express my most sincere condolences.

It is a tragedy when a person who devotes his life to helping others in need, has to needlessly sacrifice his life because of the misplaced anger of others. I never met Pero but from his deeds, he seems to be the type of person dedicated to improving the life of all human beings. It is tragic when the human race loses these kinds of people because we are all diminished. He is a martyr to all that is good and we pray that the meaning he brought to his much- too-short-life is understood by us and used to improve ourselves and humanity. It was a terrible irony that I received a QSL from 4W6SP (via 9A2AA) and then later in the day heard of Pero's death in West Timor. The death of any young person is a tragedy, but this was especially sad, given the good work Pero was engaged in. Pero gave his life for others. A priceless gift that shines brighter than any star. It deeply moves me and stands as a challenge to me to move past personal comfort to give as he gave. At the same time, it deeply saddens me that such violence exists. My sincere condolences to Pero's family and friends. The Amateur Radio community, no, the world, has lost a gem.

I did not have a chance to meet Pero, but over the last couple of days listening to the tributes to his bravery and courage in the face of often insurmountable difficulties, I feel like I have lost a long-time friend. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

Mom najboljem prijatelju i vjencanom kumu Pero. Prerano te sudbina uze iz mog zivota. Prerano. Toliki je zivot bio pred tobom i toliko toga smo jos trebali provesti zivota. Jos ne vjerujem da su se nasi putevi ovako okrutno rastali. Sjecam se naseg razgovora onaj dan kad smo se rastali na aerodromu. Nismo imali vrimena ni da se oprostimo. Reka si: "Evo, zovu moj let. Marune, cuvaj mi ti sebe, zenu i malu. Odnija vrag prisu, popit cemo kavu kad se vratim". Nikad je vise necemo popit. Reka si isto kad san te zva da mi budes kum da isto vrag odnija prisu. Da moze svadba cekat kad san vec ceka sedan godina. Ja tebe necu docekati na aerodromu. Sad je sve gotovo. Nema te vise ali znan da si tu i da gledas na nas. Ima zivota iza zivota i jednog dana ponovo cemo biti skupa. Ti i ja, ka sta smo se uvik drzali skupa i uvik bili tu jedan za drugoga. Hvala ti za sve sta si napravija za mene i moju obitelj, za tvoju dobrotu i za tvoje veliko i dobro srce kakvih na ovom svijetu nema vise. Hvala ti za nasih 25 godina prijateljstva.
