I am currently
a first year student pursuing studies for a HND (Higher National Diploma)
in Electronic Communication Systems at the University
of Plymouth in the UK.
I got
my Radio Amateur's licence in December 1992 at age 16, but did not get
on the air until the following year however. I
operate mostly SSB on all bands between 10 and 80 metres. Recently I have
been listening on 6 metres and hope to be fully QRV when I return to Barbados
during the summer holidays in June 1999, just in time for the Es
season. I also enjoy DXing, contesting and awards hunting on HF.
For more info on my activities see, Operating Awards & Achievements
below.
Operating Awards & Achievements
So far the only major operating award I have achieved is DXCC for both phone & mixed modes. I have worked all continents but have not applied for the WAC award, for Worked All States I only need Alaska, Hawaii and Wyoming. For the WAZ programme I lack zones 19,23 & 24 (very difficult from Barbados). I also chase islands for the Islands on the Air (IOTA) Programme and counties for the US-CA County Hunters Award.
On the Contest scene, I have won from Barbados (not much competition here !!) in the CQWW, WPX, IARU, WAE, ARRL DX (4th in the world low power 1997), County Hunters Contest (1st DX North America 1996) and many other awards from smaller "domestic" contests from other countries. Of course my favourite contest is the .
