Tour de Lanka - A tour around some of the beautiful places of Sri lanka.

In this page, I am going to show you some of the beautiful places in my country which were seen by my camera. The pictures are in high resolution and may take few minutes to load completely specially if you have a very slow internet connection.. Further I didn't compress the files in order to maintain the clarity.

A Video will speak 1000 words.

This is the Flower caled 'Lotus'. Widely seen in Sri Lanka.

Tropical flowers typical to the hill country of Sri Lanka.

Horton Planes

The above place is called the Horton planes. It is home to a diverse set of animals and plant life.

Horton Planes

This is called the 'Baker's falls'. No one forgets to take a bath in this beautiful waterfall when they go to see the 'World's end' at the Horton's plane.   Baker's fall is very popular for very pure and extremely cold water coming from the lush mountains.

Typical scenery of the countryside roads in the Central province of Sri Lanka.

A hanging bridge joining two villages in Kotmale.

Tropical forests surrounding the Kotmale reservoir

Unawatuna

This is a scenery from the place called 'Unawatuna' in the Southern beach.

This is the temple at 'Dambulla'. Temple is located on this huge rock inside a cave.

Yala

This is a rare chance for one to see the elephant crowd at 'Yala' elephant park. They are all ready to go for the daily bath at the nearby river.

Yala

When they go to the river......

And when they are in the forest..

This animal locally known as 'Goona' is found typically in the forests of Horton planes.

This is another view from the calm southern beach.

Polonnaruwa

This is a temple at 'Polonnaruwa'.

This is the beautiful botanical garden at 'Peradeniya'.

Temple of tooth

This is the 'Temple of tooth' at kandy.

Another photograph of Lord Buddha taken at the 'Temple of Tooth' kandy.

Kandy

Another picture taken at Kandy .

The beautiful 'Maa Oya' (River Maa) which is seen along the Ambepussa - Polgahawela road. The warm clean water and pure white sandy river edges are so welcoming for a bath.

Another view of Maa oya.

Typical scenary along the Ambepussa - Kurunegala road. The name plate on this small shop says 'Let's eat rice' or in Sinhalese 'Bath kamu' indicating that this is a rice shop. But we Sri Lankanas do not write the letters verticaly. This is a little exception. The railroad is running parallel to the bus road on the right side.

Typical green tropical forests along the roadside from Polgahawela to Kurunegala. This place is called 'Kosgama' meaning 'Village of Jak trees'. Nice area to stop by while having the long drive from Colombo to Anuradhapura to have a snack and to get some rest. It is said that there are toilets inside this forest..!!!

Rice Paddy fields from Dambulla area. Gold in colour and ready to harvest in few weeks. The Matale hill range is seen behind.

Another one from Dambullu rice fields. But the harvest is being collected and this field will be ready for the next plantation in weeks. Behind is the Matale hill range.

View inside a typical Sri Lankan greenforest. The 'monkey' on the tree is a very common display if one gets a chance to go inside this kind of forest. These harmless animals live in groups. Don't show your food items to them in a place like this, since you have the chance of loosing the container also.

A typical scene from the Central North Province which is the home for some ancient cities like Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa.

Some tropical fruits Annasi, Divul, Pera, Kesel, Oranges..these are widely available in Sri Lanka.
