9M2/4S7AB May 2004

During a business trip to Malaysia, I was able to get a reciprocal license 9M2/4S7AB in May 2004. My good friend 9M2RS helped an motivated me for this.

I was able to meet Andy Lingam 9M2PV his XYL Mullar during this visit at their morning QTH and also at home. I operated his stn and made QSO with 4S7EA and some other Dx stations. Andy is a vy famous ham in Malaysia and also an experienced old timer. Both Andy and Mullar have been living in Sri Lanka some years ago and they are known to many old timer 4S7's.

Most of my Dxing took place during the night time. I had a 20m long wire hanging down from the hotel window of my room at 15th floor. After Dxing, it was pulled up and packed nicely into my traveling bag. Since the long wire was not very effective and there was no proper ground available, the Dxing has been very tight. I was able to work 4S7VK, 4S7WN and 4S7WI after few attempts.

Visit to Malaysia 9M land - April 2003.....

It was on a businuss trip. I did not have much time for ham radio preparations. Everyone visiting Malaysia do not forget to visit the Petronas twin towers. Even though they forget, they can see it for a long distance from the Kuala Lampur city. Becuase it is once the tallest building in the world. Even today they stand giant in the middle of KL.

After searching through internet and giving few calls away, I was able to get hold of Rashid 9M2RS, the former president of MARS who kindly came foward to take me to once of their club stations called MARES. MARES stands for Malaysia Amateur Radio Emergency Services. It was a very pleasant eyeball qso covering propagation, Dxing, SeaNet and many more timely topics. Many members joined the fun including 9M2AU Aziz, 9W2DJ Dahalan, 9M2RJ Raja, 9M2RB Rosli, 9M2RI Alex, 9M2SW Thomas. The meetings are conducted in a very friendly and informal manner. Everyone brings some food and everyone shares them. See the pic below.
