Brankovic family left a lot of trails of their arms - on coins, seals and clothes. Although there are variations, two symbols are always presented: horns of buffalo, and lion en passant (passing by). Horns are probably taken from Lazarevic family because Brankovics wanted to say that they are the legal successors of ex dynasty. This coat is taken from the seal of Lazar Brankovic (seal is from 1457.).

Brankovics are the last Serbian Mediaeval dynasty that ruled until total collapse of Serbian state under Turkish authority. Vuk Brankovic married Mara, eldest daughter of duke Lazar (Hrebeljanovic), and was one of duke's closest friends. They fought together on Kosovo battle, 1389.

When Vuk who was in charge of right flank of Serbian army penetrated to the very center of Turkish camp, Lazar was captured and that left hole in the troop formation. Vuk decided to save what he could and continue with the defense of Serbia. Opposite to the historical information, in the popular stories and poems Vuk Brankovic was presented as traitor. His son, Djuradj conflicted despot Stefan, because he wanted Serbian throne for himself. They cleared their conflicts and lead successful fight against Turks, 1413. After death of his relative, Djuradj became new despot. His enthrone was official in1429. Despite downfall of Smederevo town in 1459, (total collapse of Serbian state), Brankovic family remained powerful until their last descendants lived.
