104th Anniversary of Independence Day celebrated at Embassy

Among the guests at the well-attended June 12 reception were Malaysian High Commissioner, H.E. Dato Salim Bin Hashim and Datin Aini Awazah Mohd Yusof, with Ambassador Cesar B. Bautista and Mrs. Ma. Paz Bautista

The 104th anniversary of Philippine Independence Day was celebrated at the Philippine Embassy on June 12 with a reception for the diplomatic corps, officials of the British government, NGO representatives, and leaders of the Filipino Community. Among those who attended the reception were ambassadors and high commissioners of the ASEAN group in London, officials of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and other British government agencies, and members of the business community.

Ambassador and Mrs. Cesar B. Bautista and officers of the Embassy welcomed the guests who were treated to Philippine dishes and a special cultural presentation, with well-known theater actress and singer Monique Wilson rendering Filipino songs, including "Sa Ugoy ng Duyan", the celebrated lullaby composed by National Artist Lucio San Pedro.

Earlier in the day, Ambassador Bautista, together with the officers and staff of the Embassy and members of their families, held a flag-raising ceremony and renewed their pledge of allegiance (Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat), after which they partook heartily of a traditional Filipino breakfast, courtesy of Mrs. Ma. Paz Bautista.
