A Filipino soprano hits the high notes in London

This gifted soprano is a rising star in the firmament of Filipino musical artists who have decided to base themselves abroad. She has been invited to perform at some of the Philippine embassy's diplomatic functions as a refreshing example of "the best of the Philippines" in the field of performing arts. Recently, she sang excerpts from Eleanor Sy Templeman's deeply moving Sinta musical during the turnover of Rizal books at the Reading Room of the British Museum, in addition to her many other musical engagements.

Thea Tadiar took her music studies at the University of the Philippines College of Music. While still a student, she became a member of the UP Madrigal Singers, acknowledged as the country's leading choral group with several world championships to their name. She toured with the Madrigals throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, in various international choral festivals and competitions. She also taught music at the extension program of the UP College of Music. From 1997 to 1998, she was a leading member of the cast of Noli and Fili, two musicals composed by Ryan Cayabyab based on the novels of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, which went on a national tour throughout the Philippines. After this stint, she went to Rome for her postgraduate studies in lyric opera at the Academia Internazionale delle Arti, after which she came to London to do further graduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music, this time in the field of musical theater.

She has been active in the concert circuit in London, in the company of her fellow music scholars at the Royal Academy. Only recently, she was one of the principal singers for a musical showcase in honor of the Duchess of Gloucester, and in another concert held at the Victoria & Albert Museum. Trained and well-versed in classical opera, in the modern musical, and in Filipino music both classical and contemporary, Thea is now offering private voice lessons for those interested in singing semi-professionally, those preparing for auditions, or those who simply love to sing. She can conduct these lessons at your home, provided there is a karaoke equipment available. You may contact her at these numbers: 0208 3051735 and 07941 347868.
