On CW Philippines' Going 15 de 4F1AAR The Early Days 6

The C W and Morning Nets

The regular activities of the Club included a daily net which has grown stronger with a record check ins of 176 stations at one time. It has become an institution and a source of or venue for gaining friends, not only with the existing clubs in District 1 but also in the DU2 , DU3 and the DU4 lands. While from time to time, amateur travellers coming from the southern part of the country do drop by whenever they are in the area and check in on the CW Philippines' morning net at 145.64 MHz.

CW or Morse Code Net at 144.01 Mhz. is also conducted in the evening and slowly becoming more and more a part of the seminars whenever there was one being conducted. Here, the participants, together with the regulars, are required to check in using the Code to practice their sending as well as their receiving skills. The CW net was organized by Rey, DV1FZ and developed by Mel, DV1DMD until it was gradually turned over to one of the best CW'ers that the Club can be proud of. Her name is Irene, DV1AQT, who took over the controls regularly from then on until she went abroad and settled there for good.

The Breakfast Eyeballs

Related to these two regular net activities are the breakfast eyeballs held once a month on a Sunday. And contrary to the usual members-must-attend-policy of the other clubs, this one actually serves as a venue where you get to see in person the ones you meet on the air, especially during the net. And everybody gets a pleasant early Sunday morning with their families while having breakfast with your newfound friends sharing, among other things, the latests on technology and ham radio.

And that was CW Philippines in it's early days, roughly fifteen years ago when some "colorum" stations began transmitting messages using this almost half forgotten Code on air once again. By the end of 1986, the Club had on it's roster "40 licensed regular members, discounting those with dual memberships. From among these, they have 6 holders of Class A Licenses. Holders of General Class Licenses or Class B is 24 and the Class C was only 10". The rest were still working on it as the books closes at that time.

No, The CW Philippines did not stop here. I was just referring to the earliest tally ever made from the time that the Club was born or came into existence because I will now be touching on some or most of it's members as we go along.. In fact, "this is just one of the programs of the group, the development and upgrading of the members"
