WELCOME TO

2E1GOP’S

WEB SITE

Hi and welcome.

I have been interested in radio since I was 12 years old. I got my first Moxom hand held CB for Christmas and what followed was the birth of my radio story……

I took my novice license in 1998 and I have gone on to work the world on my 50w of permitted power….

A brief history on the UK license

When I took my test in 1998 there was a two tear license in place. You had the full and the “novice” license or the 2E1 and 2E0 call signs. The 2E1’s was allowed 10w on the 70cms band only or the class “B” license….. The 2E0’s where the people that had passed the 5wpm Morse code and was allowed to go on some of the HF frequency’s using 10w.

We all know now that the system as changed and there's not many of us 2E1’s about now… Hard to believe that we have a call in UK that is sort after!!

I feel sorry for the original 2E0’s now that they are giving this range of call signs out to people who have passed there intermediate license and gone on to take the foundation. Most 2E0’s I think by now have took there full license.

I always said that that was a strange move… Maybe the powers that be should have brought out a new range of call signs instead of using calls for the novice “A” license.

I will shut up now it may land me in trouble!!! I Voiced my opinion at the time but hey that’s how it goes….

People ask why haven't taken the full license and I say why do I need to? When the bands are open and with the right antenna you can work the world…..

My old saying when it was the novice license

“A NOVICE BUILT THE ARK  -  A EXPERT BUILT THE TITANIC!!”

I am QRV on HF, VHF, UHF (when someone is on there—70cms—A big band, Little if no activity? If we don't use it—we will lose it!!). Basically I use all the mode’s, Phone and PSK being the most I use, But I have been known to do a spot of SSTV and RTTY. All modes—All bands!!
