Welcome to the 14.302.5 message board

Haven't heard from someone in a while? Wonder if anyone else has?

How about all those question you have about operating mobile? Many of the people that monitor this frequency have racked up literally hundreds of thousands of miles while operating mobile, and can offer a wealth of information about mobile operation.

This is the place for those questions.

Getting s6-7 noise on 40m band, believe from injector control on '99 Freightshaker - what is best ferrite core material to whoop this nasty noise, please?

14.302.5 Is not an owned frequency! I have a saying not to stir the poop or it will stink worse but I can't help it. I am one that usually never complains but I can't contain it no more. It allways amazes me come contest times or any other time i'll be listing to 14.302.5 and here no-one talking at all. Someone will come on and ask if the frequency is in use. Sometimes as many as three times. Hearing no answer they start calling cq cq cq or cq contest and just as soon as he is done he is told the frequency is in use or better yet that you are on the truckers frequency. When in fact no frequency is owned. The only time a frequency is set aside is when the FCC declares a freq. for emergency communications. I was talking to a guy on another 20mtr freq and about that time a net started up right on top of use. We were simply told to change frequency and they went on with there net. The common curtisy is to ask if they could move but in the real world whoever has the freq first is using it. I can not understand after hearing some trucker on 302.5 tell them the frequency is in use (and not i.d.) and i'll listen and no one uses the frequency. How can we say there is a net here when I have never heard a net control? So we cant lie and say there is a net on this frequency. I'm affraid in our attempt to "hold" the frequency sometimes we are guilty just as much as the other guys or even yet the contesters. I here people get jumped as if they should of know this was a trucker frequency when in fact, I drove trucker and was a ham for years before I found out there was a frequency everyone hangs around so how do we expect many thousands of hams nationwide to know this? More and more people are getting there liscenses and the bands are getting very crowed. I believe that some of the harmful interference that we get are brought on by some of our actions. A little curtiousy goes a long ways. When someone ask if the frequency is in use or if someone starts calling on top of another we need to remember that we cannot allways hear everone. Yes some do start calling on a "quite" frequency not hearing anyone but in reallity on the other side of the map is a qso. No need to jump them harshley. A little resepect goes a long ways. Do unto others how you want to be treated. I hope I don't affend anyone but thought this might be something that needs to be address. Don't want 14.302.5 being confused by CB 19. I have been told that by some friends that try to reach me on the road. No its not that we are truckers but a lot of the CB habbits (attitudes) are carried over. I hope I don't de friend anyone with this point-of-view. Please rememeber, I might not agree with yours but at least we can still be humane and talk like friends. 73 all, Travel safe. de Clayton

Fern Lemire - VE6PAW - Silent Key It is with indescribable sorrow that I now write this email. This morning I have recieved the grave news that my Dad, my mothers husband, and a friend to myself and all of you, lost his life on his trip yesterday evening. Nobody really knows exactly what happened. The details are all still very sketchy. I do know that to all he will be greatly missed. Fern was a man that everyone could rely on and trust in. He never once hesitated to help out another person in need of his services, expertise, or simply a listening ear... I would like to take this time, on behalf of my dad, my mom, and my family to say good bye on his behalf. I would like to thank everyone for being a part of who my Dad was. Everywhere he went he took great pleasure in his meetings with a wide variety of truly great people. Every one he met was welcomed by stories of his travels, his accomplishments, and even on occassion his hardships. In return, these very people, all of you, were the pride and joy of his life. Perhaps a big piece in what kept him ticking all of these years. Denis Lemire Rec. by email Nov 1, 2002

I see your message about interference from 14.300 maritme net service. I don't think the interference is coming from them. I seem to get more interference from 14.305. There are several stations there that run some excessive power and transmit some wider then normal signals (i.e. Donald Duck Interference). I have heard several of them expressing distaste with the fact that the truckers use 14.302.5 so sometimes I am curious if the wide sideband signals sometimes may be intentional. No that is not an accusation. Just an observation. C'Yall on the freq. 73 de Brian

An open message to all of the 18-wheelers on the net. I am involved in the restoration of the radio room aboard the LST-325 now berthed at Chickasaw, AL. We have received donatations of vintage equipment from all over the country. As the LST-325 ship memorial is short of funds, we are in dire need for help getting equipment b from the west coast to Mobile through donations of time and transportation. Would have had the fund if it were not for the $200,000 drydocking bill to get the hull repaired and the ship painted. All your help will be appreciated. MEDICAL ALERT INFORMATION SERVICE 800-297-5149 IN TODAY’S WORLD WE WOULDN’T THINK ABOUT NOT HAVING INSURANCE ON OUR HOME, OUR VEHICLES, OUR MEDICAL CONDITION, AND OUR LIFE, YET WE GO ABOUT OUR EVERY DAY ROUTINES WITHOUT THE ABILITY FOR OUR MEDICAL HISTORY TO TRAVEL WITH US. THINK ABOUT IT FOR A MINUTE, IF YOU’RE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OR HAVE OTHER MEDICAL EMERGENCY WHO’S GOING TO TELL THE ATTENDING PERSONNEL ABOUT YOUR PAST OR PRESENT MEDICAL HISTORY. IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR ILLNESS YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH MEDICAL PERSONNEL OR SIMPLY MAY NOT REMEMBER ALL THE NEEDED INFORMATION. ALL BASIC LIFE SAVING TREATMENTS WILL BE STARTED WITHOUT THIS INFORMATION, BUT THE MOST ADVANCED MEDICINES AND TREATMENT COULD BE DELAYED UNTIL MEDICAL HISTORY HAS BEEN RECEIVED. OUR SERVICE WILL ELIMINATE THIS PROBLEM BY PROVIDING THE ATTENDING MEDICAL PERSONNEL WITH YOUR MEDICAL HISTORY WITHIN MINUTES AFTER ARRIVING ON THE SCENE. WITH OUR SERVICE YOU WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A MEDICAL QUESTIONNAIRE, WHICH YOU FILL OUT, AND RETURN TO MEDICAL ALERT. ONCE YOUR QUESTIONNAIRE IS RECEIVED BACK WE WILL ISSUE AN I.D. CARD TO BE CARRIED BY YOU AT ALL TIMES. THIS CARD HAS ALL THE BASIC INFORMATION NEEDED BY FIRST RESPONDERS AT THE SCENE WITH A TOLL FREE NUMBER TO CALL FOR MORE DETAILED INFORMATION. THE INFORMATION FROM YOUR QUESTIONNAIRE WILL BE PLACED IN A COMPUTER DATABASE WHICH WILL BE ACCESSIBLE 24 HOURS A DAY 7 DAYS A WEEK. ONLY PEOPLE WITH THE PROPER IDENTIFICATION, WHICH IS CONTAINED ON YOUR I.D. CARD, WILL HAVE ACCESS TO THIS INFORMATION. PROPER IDENTIFICATION SHALL CONSIST OF NAME, I.D. NUMBER, SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, AND DATE OF BIRTH. Just a quick note concerning the 14302 BBQ in Clay Center, Ne. on 09/02/01. Many thanks from Kate and myself to all who were able to attend, to the making of many new friends and the great time we had in the spirit of amature radio. Total attendance was 42, a few more than last year. Next year we hope to have the party and BBQ at the county fair grounds here in Clay Center so everyone can be close to their rigs, RV's and auto's. A larger facility with kitchen will also be available. Ample space will also be available for the many pets to run and play with no fear of getting hit by an oncomming car or truck due to the location of the grounds. Tnx Mike for all the hard work and effort you put into your exotic dishes. Once again I say thanks for being here in the spirit of amature radio. Hope to see all and many more next year. There is no invitation required for this get-to-gether so just come on down !!! 73's Larry and Kate KB0LTT KB0SFS

Hi All Sorry I missed Tom for "breaky" a while back.Just finished 2 movies back to back. Slap Shot II and K9 III P.I. Drove the 45 electrics rig on Slap Shot as well as driving Gary Busey and the Hanson Brothers. On K9II I was Jim Belushi`s personal driver for 6 weeks. It really was a great time and to think I get paid and fed too. WOW ! With the threat of an actors strike not much booked for July and Aug. However news says actors have settled. Now there are 14 tv series and 5 feature films ready to go in next few weeks. Looks like I may not get back out on highway as planned. Will try and get on the base station while I have some time. Sure am missing y`all. Drive Safe GOD Bless. 73 88 de Corky

As I listen to comments on the air, I can tell there are hams that are coming on board at both Trailer Transit and Prime Transport. It's really nice to hear so many of you will be joining us in our two tow-away companies. We wish you all well in this endeavor. We even got a chance to meet Dick in Indy, and it's good to see how happy he is at Prime. When KA0RM made comment just before his unfortunate accident that Vicky had moved to Prime, I called her and asked her why. She told me, and her reasons made sense. I wished her well and gave her our email and phone number so we could continue to keep in touch with her. While she may not be with us at Transit now, as with all the people we know, our friendship with her is NOT dependent on where she works. We hope that Prime will fill her needs and give her all she wants from her profession. She's a good lady, and those of you at Prime will be very happy with her. Nedra

Greetings friends and aquaintances. Sorry for being outa touch. I am working as transport co-captain on a new tv series called "The Fearing Mind" due out this fall. Each episode is 7 shooting {filming} days and we are on the 3rd episode now. The name of the "pilot" for this series was The Master of Horror and Suspense. I think we are signed for 120 episodes. Long hours averaging 15=18 hrs per day. Great crew good fun and a great cast too boot. Have had lots of calls offering road trips, but this is fun and paydays are fine. At any rate I am thinking of Y`all and send prayers for safe journeys all around. Look forward to getting on the air asap. Best 73 all around. de Corky VE7ZDX

If you are looking for ideas of mounting a screwdriver antenna, check out mine. Go to the station list and scroll down to my Call Sign, N0LZS. Mike has put up a couple of great pics of my installation. If you have an FLD, be careful that the hood latch clears the bottom of the antenna, and wires. Also note that the clearance on the inside of the cowl is limited. Those nuts that you install with a Pop Rivet gun would work nice, otherwise you have to cut the bolts short and insert them from the inside. Use Stainless Steel fastners. Use rubber grommets where the wires pass through the cowl and again through the firewall. Put plenty of rubber sealer around the wires where they enter the cab. And thanks to Dick Zahn for sending me pics of his installation.

I have a challenge for all Ham radio operators, I challenge all of us to watch what we say,how we say it,and how we present ourselves on Ham Radio. we must keep ourselves in line, and present ourselves as professionals in the radio business. we are always listened to,judged, and compared to 11 meter operators all the time. This has to be adressed if we are to be respected as the folks we are.I for one,am proud of our hobby, and do not want to lose any of the priviliges that we have,so keep in mind that we are all listened to by potential new operators, school students, and new groups all the time.I would like for us all to take into consideration that we can loose our priviliges at any time, respect what we have. please watch what we say,and how we conduct ourselves. We already have crowded bands,so do the best we can to get along. Give a little, recieve a lot.
